The Nonesuch Orchestra Returns to Chiswick

The Nonesuch Orchestra is returning to Chiswick to give a concert as part of CoMA’s 2024 Festival of Contemporary Music for All #comafestival2024.
The Orchestra will be joined for at least one of the pieces by students from Twyford CofE Academies Trust schools.
It is taking place on Sunday 10 March at 5pm at St Peter’s Church Acton Green, Southfield Road W4 1BB.
“Admirable” and “very high quality” is how Dame Judith Weir, Master of the King’s Music, describes the g Nonesuch Orchestra. As well as public concerts, this group holds workshops in schools around London, giving many children their first-ever experience of live orchestral music, up close.
During a concert of new and newly resurrected music, the Orchestra is teaming up with the local school students to perform Imogen Holst’s “Variations on ‘Loth to Depart’” – a piece for two orchestras and string quartet premièred in 1962 and last performed in 1967. She wrote the parts for the second orchestra for less-experienced players, so it is a perfect project for young musicians.
The Orchestra will also play the “Brook Green Suite” by Imogen’s father Gustav Holst, the London première of Andrew Toovey’s new work “Perception” and “Entr’acte” by Caroline Shaw – the youngest ever winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
The Nonesuch Orchestra is participating in CoMA’s biennial nationwide and international Festival of Contemporary Music for All for the third time.
Tea, coffee and cake will be served at St Peter’s Church from 4.30pm.
Tickets are £10 to £14, and free for under 18s and students, and can be purchased online.
The Nonesuch Orchestra, under conductor Dan Shilladay and leader Stephanie Waite, rehearses on Thursday mornings in Queen’s Park. Membership is open to string players of Grade 8 standard and above.
