St Paul’s Church in Chiswick will be filled with some of opera’s most thrilling music this summer as Hounslow Symphony Orchestra welcomes soprano Olivia Doutney for its Summer Opera Gala on Saturday 4 July.

Olivia has been praised for her beautiful tone, expressive delivery and the kind of stage presence that draws an audience in from the first note. Whether she is shaping a quiet lyrical line or soaring over a full orchestra, she brings warmth, passion and a strong dramatic instinct to everything she sings.

The programme is a generous celebration of opera at its most emotional and expansive. Audiences can expect music from Verdi’s Aida, La Traviata and The Force of Destiny, Puccini’s Tosca, Madama Butterfly and La Bohème, Wagner’s Tannhäuser and Tristan und Isolde, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and other well‑loved favourites. It promises an evening of sweeping orchestral colour, heart‑stopping arias and the kind of musical storytelling that opera does best.

For long‑time opera lovers, it is a chance to hear some of the repertoire’s most iconic moments performed live. For those new to opera, it offers an inviting introduction to the beauty and drama that have made these works endure. St Paul’s Church, with its warm acoustic and intimate atmosphere, provides the perfect setting for a summer evening of music.

Tickets are available through the orchestra’s website, and early booking is recommended.

The HSO aims to be London’s friendliest orchestra, and says it always give new members a warm welcome. There are no formal entry requirements or auditions unless there is excess demand for an instrument. A minimum playing standard of Associated Board grade 6 or equivalent is expected . If you want to give it a try but aren’t sure, you can join in rehearsals for a few weeks to see how you like it, with no obligation.

The orchestra rehearse on Monday evenings, from 7.30pm until 9.45pm St Mary’s Church, Osterley Road, Isleworth (TW7 4PW) after which some of the members go to The Rising Sun on London Road, corner of Wood Lane.

It plays a wide range of music, typically opening a concert with an overture, followed by a concerto, often with a guest soloist, then a symphony in the second half.

The annual membership fee is £200, £155 for over 60s and students pay £75 (or £25 per term).

For performances, gents wear black tie, ladies all black and the HSO “season” consists of concerts in November, March and July.
