Chiswick Choirs Feature in Performance of Mahler's Resurrection

Hounslow Symphony Orchestra’s (HSO) Spring concert is to be a performance of Mahler Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”.
Along with two Chiswick choirs, it will be performing at the Chiswick School Sports Hall on Saturday 22 March at 6pm.
More than 200 musicians will be taking part in another collaboration between HSO and Chiswick Voices and Chiswick Community Choir. They recently came together to perform Fauré’s Requiem and now they combine to tackle one of the most profound works in the symphonic repertoire.
Guest soloists will be soprano Ellie Neate and alto Lily Mo Browne with HSO’s Musical Director Dorian Dimitrov conducting and Chiswick School’s Zac Moxon directing the choir.
Lily Mo Browne is a 24-year-old mezzo-soprano from East London currently in her final year of study on the Vocal and Opera Masters Programme at the Royal College of Music. She studies under Ben Johnson and Caroline Dowdle, is supported by the Drake Calleja Trust, and is both a Robert Lancaster and Helen Majorie Tonks Scholar.
For the 24/25 season, Ellie Neatre will make debuts with Scottish Opera and Opera Holland Park as Sylviane in The Merry Widow, and at Opera North, where she will perform Papagena in The Magic Flute Lite. She will also give a salon recital with Opera Rara, and return to the English National Opera to cover Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance. So far this season she has covered Tytania in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Papagena with Opera North, and performed the role of Ellie in The Man in the Moon for the Family Sunday programme at the Royal Opera House.
Past opera engagements include Celia in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe, Daughter 1 in Philip Glass’ Akhnaten and cover Elsie Maynard The Yeomen of the Guard at ENO, Elisa in Mozart’s Il Re Pastore, Lisa in Bellini’s La Sonnambula and Cleopatra in Hasse’s Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra for Buxton International Festival, Galatea Acis and Galatea, Milica Svadba and Maria Bertram Mansfield Park for Waterperry Opera Festival, Cunegonde Candide for Blackheath Halls Community Opera, and Gretel Hansel and Gretel for British Youth Opera, for which she won the Basil A Turner Award.
The Chiswick Community Choir, formed in February 2024, by Zac Moxon along with senior choir Chiswick Voices, brings together a diverse group of singers, from seasoned performers to those who have not sung since their school days.

Tickets at £16 are on sale via the HSO website and under 18s go free.
The HSO aims to be London’s friendliest orchestra, and says it always give new members a warm welcome. There are no formal entry requirements or auditions unless there is excess demand for an instrument. A minimum playing standard of Associated Board grade 6 or equivalent is expected . If you want to give it a try but aren’t sure, you can join in rehearsals for a few weeks to see how you like it, with no obligation.
The orchestra rehearse on Monday evenings, from 7.30pm until 9.45pm St Mary’s Church, Osterley Road, Isleworth (TW7 4PW) after which some of the members go to The Rising Sun on London Road, corner of Wood Lane.
It plays a wide range of music, typically opening a concert with an overture, followed by a concerto, often with a guest soloist, then a symphony in the second half.
The annual membership fee is £200, £155 for over 60s and students pay £75 (or £25 per term).
For performances, gents wear black tie, ladies all black and the HSO “season” consists of concerts in November, March and July.
