Gunnersbury Triangle Celebrates A Happy Birthday

30th Anniversary party was held in glorious sunshine

The 30th anniversary party for the Gunnersbury Triangle Nature Reserve was held in glorious sunshine with lots of friends, old and new, turning up to help celebrate the saving of the reserve from developers in 1983.

The site is managed by the London Wildlife Trust (LWT) and the centrepiece of the Trust’s display was a fabulous triangular cake covered in green icing and decorated with the wildlife, all made out of sugar and marzipan, that can be found in the Triangle – frog spawn, newts, butterflies, moths, dragonflies, a stag beetle and lots more.

The cake cutting ceremony was performed by Deputy Mayor Corinna Smart and Mathew Frith Deputy Chief Executive of the LWT. In her speech the Deputy Mayor said: “The Triangle is a vital community resource for Hounslow and a unique wildspace providing an important habitat for a host of wildlife, and offers natural tranquillity and chance to escape the city.”

Speaking of the battle to save the Triangle she continued: “It is living proof that local people can work together to improve their environment. The success of the early campaign to save the Triangle has safeguarded it for future generations.”
