Brilliant Butterflies

A guided walk around Gunnersbury Triangle

"Brilliant Butterflies" is a free event on the 22nd July from 2pm until 4.30pm. It is a guided walk around the Gunnersbury Triangle Nature Reserve lead by local butterfly expert Andy.

The butterflies that may be seen are The Comma, Red Admiral, Peacock, Painted Lady, Large White, Small White, Green Veined White, Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown, Holly Blue, Gatekeeper, Small Skipper and Brimstone.

You may see some of these in your gardens but others thrive on woodland edges and long grasses and so would not usually venture into suburban gardens. You need to go somewhere like Gunnersbury Triangle to see them.

All events start at the Reserve entrance on Bollo Lane, acton, W4, 5LW opposite Chiswick Park Tube Station.

The Gunnersbury Triangle Nature Reserve is currently at the centre of a controversial planning project by the developer Blackstone, to build high-rise housing adjacent to the reserve.

Local groups campaigning against the decision by Ealing Council to grant planning permmission are writing to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnston, to appeal for the nature reserve to be protected. They also want local support in their letter writing campaign.

They are worried that the development will have an adverse impact on the Reserve. A number of celebrities, including actress Rula Lenska and David Bellamy, have supported them.
