Writes to Ealing Council to oppose development

The broadcaster and environmentalist Professor David Bellamy is supporting HOOT’s campaign against the proposed development next to the Gunnersbury Triangle Local Nature Reserve.

In a letter to Ealing Council’s planning department he said;

“I am extremely concerned to hear that Ealing Council is considering a planning application which might allow an up-to eight-storey building close to the Gunnersbury Triangle Nature Reserve.

In 1983 I was delighted to be involved in saving this wonderful site from development. The Public Inquiry at that time set a precedent in the UK in its ruling that urban nature should be favoured over commercial development.

It would be a terrible wrong to undo the spirit of that ruling by approving a development which would remove many of the benefits which were granted by this decision.

This is a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. I urge you to refuse this planning application, and to leave this lovely place for Nature.”

Hounslow Council has also written a letter objecting to the development by Blackstone. Local Ealing MP Angie Bray has also expressed her concerns (a copy of her letter is on the Forum)

The matter is due for discussion by Ealing Council at the end of May when local residents and groups objecting to the current plans will have a chance to put their case.

Residents in the roads around the planned development who are concerned about parking congestion, are also objecting to the plans as currently envisaged.
