Rare chance to see inspiring film about overcoming disability
Staff Benda Bilili are street musicians from Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who have achieved international success.
Their music is rooted in rumba with elements of rhythm ‘n blues, reggae and funk.
The core members of Benda Bilili (“beyond appearances”) are disabled due to polio and get around on customised tricycles. They are backed by a rhythm section of former street children.
The film Benda Bilili tells the story of the band’s rise to fame, from the first rehearsals to their triumph at international festivals.
There’s a chance to see this inspirational film on Wednesday 29 August, 7.30pm at the George IV pub, 185 Chiswick High Road, W4 2DR.
The screening is organised by Disability Network Hounslow, as part of a programme of events helped by funding from the London Borough of Hounslow Community Partnership Unit.
All are welcome. There is no fixed charge – pay what you can afford.
