The Chiswick Horticultural & Allotments Society is making a drive to recruit new members.
Since its foundation in 1915 as the Chiswick Allotment Holders Association it has promoted the art, science and practice of horticulture.
It now seeks to continue to grow and adapt to meet our community's evolving needs, by bringing in fresh perspectives and new energy. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting your horticultural journey, your skills and enthusiasm could make a real difference.
The Society currently has several opportunities, all on a pro bono basis, ranging from committee positions, through to a host of voluntary roles.
Whether you can spare a few hours a month, or would like to take on a more substantial role, it would love to hear from you. No previous experience is necessary – enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are all you need.
Getting involved not only helps the Society but also offers you:
- A chance to shape the future direction of our community
- Opportunities to learn new skills
- The satisfaction of contributing to a vital local organisation
- A deeper connection with fellow gardening enthusiasts

The Society is entirely run by volunteers from the committee to the Trading Centre.
It provides its members with free advice, seeds, bulbs, fertiliser, compost and tools at a lower cost than commercial garden centres and organises shows, talks, tours and events throughout the year.
Membership of the Society is open to everyone, whether they have an allotment, garden or window box and costs just £8 per year.
CHAS holds two shows a year where novices or seasoned gardeners young or old are encouraged to exhibit a range of produce, including their flowers, vegetables, fruit, cakes, chutneys and photos.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor. For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
