Laura Reineke
January 30, 2026
On Tuesday 24 February, environmental campaigner and marathon swimmer Laura Reineke will speak at The Pier House about her newly founded charity, Friends of the Thames (FoTT).
Ms Reineke, who recently completed the prestigious “Triple Crown” of marathon swimming, will outline her mission to unite communities, volunteers and river users in the fight for a cleaner, healthier Thames.
The evening will introduce FoTT’s River Guardian Scheme, which trains volunteers to monitor water quality and identify ecological threats, as well as the charity’s bold long-term ambition to secure legal personhood for the river. With pollution and biodiversity loss now major concerns, the talk offers a practical route for residents to get involved in restoring the Thames.
Doors open at 6.30pm for refreshments, with the talk beginning at 7pm and followed by a Q&A. Tickets are £5 (free for Chiswick Pier members).
For those who prefer to experience the Thames from the water, Chiswick Pier Trust’s Mothering Sunday Afternoon Tea Cruise returns on Sunday 15 March. Families can enjoy a full afternoon tea served at the table while sailing downstream towards Westminster, accompanied by live commentary on the sights along the river.
The boat departs at 2:45pm (boarding from 2:30pm). This popular annual event sells out quickly, so early booking is advised.
Events like this are organised by the Chiswick Pier Trust which works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and supports major river events, as well as organising events of its own.
