Writer Tom Chivers is to give a talk for Chiswick Pier Trust (CPT) on the ancient practice of mudlarking, sharing some fascinating stories behind curious artefacts discovered at low tide, along the banks of the River Thames.
The audience will have an opportunity to handle and view some of his collection of mudlarking ‘finds’, from Roman pottery to Medieval jewellery.
He is currently working on a PhD project focused on Thames Mudlarks – in partnership with Museum of London, Thames Discovery Project and Queen Mary’s University, London. He has recently published a book titled ‘London Clay’ which explores the lesser-known aspects of the city’s past.
More info on his work can be found here.
The event takes place on Tuesday, 25 February at 7pm at The Pier House, Corney Reach Way (W4 2UG). Doors open to The Pier House at 6.30pm when refreshments will be on sale.
Tickets cost £5 or are free to CPT members.
If you’re not a member yet, remember CPT membership is still only £10 and includes a free ticket to the talks. See here for details on how to join.
