Events start off with talk this month on William Morris

The Chiswick Pier Trust has a busy year of talks and events for 2013, starting on January 29th at 7.30 with a talk on William Morris and his links with the Thames.

Jane Ennis, from the William Morris Society, will talk about “News From Nowhere”, which included a boat trip down the Thames from his home at Kelmscott House, Hammersmith to Kelmscott Manor, Gloucestershire. Jane will also include information on the work of his factory near Merton Abbey, which is located on the River Wandle, a tributary of the Thames.

Tuesday February 26th, 7.30pm. A talk by Wayne Bellamy, Station Manager and Holly Phillips, the RNLI’s Principal Naval Architect in Poole and the project manager for the RNLI’s new boat programme, on the advances in technology that help the RNLI to save lives on and around the Thames.

Sunday March 10th, Mothering Day Cruise.

Tuesday March 19th, 7.30pm. “The River Thames - Would you drink it?". A talk on the pumping station at Kew Bridge: why it was built there, why it is still there and what is its future?

Sunday March 31st, 4.30pm. The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.

April, date tbc. The popular annual guided bird walk with ornithologist Keith Martin.

Sunday July 28th, Party on the Pier. Chiswick Pier Trust’s annual party celebrating the Thames with stalls, children’s entertainment, a barbecue, Fuller’s bar and live band.
