Chiswick RNLI Will Have Role in Diamond Jubilee Pageant


Talk by Wayne Bellamy will tell inside story on challenges

The Chiswick Pier Trust is hosting a talk by Wayne Bellamy, the RNLI Station Master at the Pier and a CPT trustee, on the role of the RNLI at this year’s Queen’s Pageant at 7.30pm on Tuesday March 27 th. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant will be the most extravagant staged in London for 350 years.

A 1,000-boat armada, representing every era in Britain’s sailing history, will gather on the river on Sunday June 3 with up to 30,000 flag waving passengers.

People will be able to see the Pageant along the river from Putney to Tower Bridge and there will be up to fifty big screens distributed along the route.

Behind the scenes, painstaking arrangements have been put in place to make sure all goes well on the day.

Wayne Bellamy will give the inside story on the challenges presented by the Pageant, having spent months with the organisers helping to create the master risk register and then developing the Search and Rescue Management Plan for the event.

He is currently manager of the second busiest Lifeboat Station in the UK and Ireland and the local RNLI are also busy preparing for the 2012 Olympics.

Chiswick Pier will play an important part in the Pageant being fully utilised by the RNLI to support the operation of 15 lifeboats and over 50 lifeboat volunteers.

After the talk anyone wishing to have a drink at Pissarro’s, the restaurant/bar next door will get a 15% discount off the bar on presentation of their ticket for the talk.

Doors open at the Pier House at 7pm and the event will start at 7.30pm. Free to Chiswick Pier Trust Members, £3 to non-members. Chiswick Pier and Chiswick Pier House are at the end of Corney Road and Edensor Road, Chiswick, W4 2UG.

Refreshments will be available.

The talk is part of a series organised by the Chiswick Pier Trust, a charity that puts people in touch with the River Thames.
