Chiswick Book Festival holds event for third year running

The Chiswick Book Festival is again running the Young People's Poetry competition for children and teens aged 8 to 13 years.

Now in its third year, the Competition is free and open to young people aged between 8-13 years. Entry is by post only, email submissions are not accepted, and the deadline is in the school summer term: 10th June 2013.

You can enter via your school or individually.

Application forms and poetry writing tips will be available at the end of this month from www.chiswickbookfestival.org.

Poems can be on any topic. Young people are invited to set their imaginations free and write a poem at home, or at school, about whatever appeals to them.

Last year 178 pupils from fourteen local schools participated in the competition and more schools are set to join the Competition this year.

There are certificates and prizes for winners in each year group and a special prize-giving and poetry workshop at the Chiswick Book Festival which this year runs from September 13th-15th.

Last year the winning children were invited to see Cressida Cowell, author of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, at The Chiswick Book Festival. Disney Junior sponsored special goody bags for the winners and once again all the winning and commended poems were displayed in the front window of Waterstones Chiswick.
