The Chiswick Area Forum will be revamped for its return on Tuesday 13 September, with the new format including a drop-in advice stall and a focus on audience questions.

The Area Forum is an opportunity for residents and Councillors to scrutinise the services that are being provided by the council as well as an opportunity to raise concerns directly with council officers on issues relating to Chiswick.

The first forum of the municipal year is at Chiswick Town Hall and will begin at 6:30pm with a drop-in advice session for residents seeking help on any topic. This informal opening will give residents the opportunity to discuss issues with Councillors, senior officers, resident groups, Hounslow Highways and the London Fire Brigade, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of how local services are delivered as well as enabling them to ask questions of local representatives and council officials.

The formal section of the meeting, which will begin at 7pm, will include a response to a recent petition regarding traffic and transport in Chiswick, followed by fire safety awareness presentation by a representative from the local London Fire Brigade and then a service level update from Hounslow Highways (covering pothole, fly tipping, street sweeping).

The new forum chair, Councillor Ron Mushiso (Chiswick Gunnersbury), says his radical overhaul of the format represents a shift in focus that will help deliver on the local Conservative election pledge to create a listening council.

Councillor Mushiso said ‘this is crucial part of our work as community leaders. We want to be as open as possible so that we can discuss the issues that matter to our residents. Not only that but we want to come away from these meetings with action points as directed by residents, so that we can improve services, support local initiatives with funding applications and bring residents closer to decision making process of the council’

He is extending an open invitation to all residents of the three Chiswick wards (Riverside, Homefields and Gunnersbury), and particularly aims to reach new residents in the expanded Chiswick wards, which now include those around Kew Bridge, Lionel Road North and Popes Lane.

The agenda will be published on the Hounslow Council website shortly, however, residents are encouraged to come prepared with questions for Councillors and Officers. The chair will endeavour to have as many questions answered directly with outstanding items followed up formally in writing.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
