Bedford Park Garden Winner Announced

Judge impressed by fixture of planting and sculpture

The Bedford Park Society has announced that the winner of this year's Bedford Park Front Gardens Competition is 5, Queen Anne's Grove owned by Chris O'Hare and Iain Renwick. The competition forms part of today's national Civic Day celebration.

The judging was carried out by the eminent garden historian Sally Jeffery, former lecturer in Garden History at Birkbeck College at the University of London and a specialist on the gardens and buildings of the late 17th century in England. She lives in Chiswick and regularly lectures about the gardens of Ham House.

Sally was particularly impressed by the elegant layout of Chris and Iain's garden, the use of sculpture and the mix of planting so that it would look well in all seasons.

She gave a Highly Commended award to 39 Marlborough Crescent owned by Patrick and Patricia Padget.
