New Year honours for Chiswick residents

Achievements of local people officially recognised

There was New Year joy for some local residents with the publication of the honours list.

Local publisher Sally Floyer was given an OBE for services to publishing and tourism in the Lake District. Mrs Floyer is managing director of Frederick Warne publishing, the company that first published the works of Beatrix Potter. It now operates as a division of the Penguin Books Group and Mrs. Floyer also has responsibility for the Ladybird books series.

Chiswick resident James Cracknell was awarded an MBE for services to sport. Having now won two gold medals he seemingly just needs another two to qualify for a knighthood. His team mate Matthew Pinsent was made a knight after emulating Sir Stephen Redgrave's achievement of winning gold medals at four different Olympics.

Roger Daltry who was educated at Acton Grammar School and who still has links with the Chiswick area was awarded a CBE. The 60-year-old star has raised more than £2 million the Teenage Cancer Trust by organising a series of star-studded concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
