Chiswick youngsters go for gold Duke Of Edinburgh's Award Centre Seeks Sponsorship For Gold Exploration Award A group of young Chiswick residents are aiming to raise a total of £20,000 to pay for a trip of a lifetime to Canada. The trip planned for July of this year is will enable them to complete their Gold Exploration Section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. The young people who all attend the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Open Award Centre at Sutton Court Methodist Church for their training have already completed their Silver Award over three last few years. They wish to travel to Canada to explore and investigate the Red Indian Culture and the History of Totem Poles. During their visit they must compile a comprehensive diary and document their research from the three week trip which is presented at an Award Ceremony in November. This trip is a opportunity of a lifetime to meet and share with other young people in Canada. Each member of the scheme needs to raise a minimum of £1,000 as part of their contribution to the trip. To date they have reached a commendable total of £13,000 by organizing car boot sales, craft fayres, fun days, sponsored walks, babysitting and many more activities. The group, who all live in Chiswick, also help in the local community with Sunday Schools, Brownies, Rainbows and other Junior Groups as well as helping where they can at Sutton Court Methodist Church. The
group is seeking local sponsors to raise the balance of £7,000,
and any sum received, whatever its size, will be mentioned in their
reports. Every penny received goes directly towards them achieving
their Gold Exploration. February
