HOUNSLOW COUNCIL LEADER STEPS DOWN

John Connelly has announced his resignation following the recent Council election result. He will be replaced by John Chatt who had been the Council Leader prior to Cllr. Connelly taking over three years ago.

Also stepping down will be Chiswick based deputy Valerie Lamey to be replaced by Cllr. Colin Ellar who is best known to Chiswick residents as the proponent of the plan to shut down the Child and Family Centre.

Cllr Connelly is also retiring from his post as an economics lecturer at Thames Valley University and is planning to devote more of his time to his ward and his golf.

Cllr. Connelly had been subject to a no confidence vote last year. The motion was proposed by Cllr Ellar and failed by just one vote. Cllr Connelly had been supported by Chiswick based Labour Councillors such as Pat Sterne and David Hopkins but neither of them stood in the recent election.

The membership of Hounslow's new Cabinet or Executive - is: Ruth Cadbury, Amint Mann, Jaddish Sharma, Gurmail Lal, Permod Kad, Ilyas Khwaja, Darshan Grewal, Bobbie Wasan and John Chatt. Portfolio responsibilities are yet to be decided.
