Chiswick 'Legend' Not Set To Close Just Yet

After the Adamou family has a Christmas break with plans to shut up shop

Rumours surrounding the closure of Chiswick institution T Adamou and Sons have proved to be premature after the family decided to take a break from the market over the Christmas period.

The business and premises were put on the market at the end of the summer inviting offers in excess of £3m. According the a member of the family, they received a number of offers but not what they were looking for. Since the Christmas period is traditionally a slow one, the family decided to take a break from the market.

The site was being offered with full planning permission for a large double fronted shop, seven one bed flats and one two bed flat.

Mr Adamou senior's passing in 2006 was mourned by the community. Comments on the ChiswickW4.com forum summed up the sense of loss at the time:

"Tony Adamou the man and his shop are valued Chiswick legends. Much sympathy to everyone close to the family."

"A lovely old man who ran what I always thought was a 'proper' shop, full of produce inside, with the veg and fruit boxes spilling out onto the pavement. Our friends still come from miles away just for the olives."
