Dukes Meadows Retains its Gold London in Bloom Award

Park receives prestigious mark of quality for second year running

Dukes Meadows is a popular local all year round particularly in summer

Dukes Meadows has once again received the Gold Award from London in Bloom.

This is the second year in succession that the riverside park has received the prestigious award.

The awards recognise the efforts of the Dukes Meadows Trust in improving their local environment. To achieve a Gold Award, and thereby be ranked as Outstanding, a park needs to score 85% or above in a test applied to the same standard across the country.

In making the award, the London in Bloom judge commented, ”The park appears to me to be in good hands, kind hearts and run by dedicated people who care deeply Well done, Keep it up, your award is well deserved for the staff, committee, volunteers and trustees.”

Chair of Dukes Meadows Trust, Paul Davis, said, “We are delighted to retain the Gold Award, it’s a testament to the hard work of our volunteers and to Connie who manages the pool. We are grateful to the council and its contractor GS360 who maintain the green areas, look after the play area and keep the park tidy and litter free. Over 20 years the Trust has transformed the Meadows into a lovely, park with high quality playgrounds, and trees, hedges and shrubs beds to enhance biodiversity. We look forward to working with the council to improve the signage, so more people can discover and enjoy the park and hope to restore Promenade Approach an important route into the park from the Thames Path.”

Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Parking, Parks and Leisure, Councillor Salman Shaheen said, “Retaining the London in Bloom Gold Award is a fantastic accolade for Dukes Meadows made possible by the passion and dedication shown by the Dukes Meadows Trust, Hounslow Council and our Lampton Greenspace 360 teams, working hand in hand to enhance this treasured green space. I would like to thank everyone involved in keeping Dukes Meadows to the Gold standard it so rightly deserves.

“The Council will continue to work closely with the Dukes Meadows Trust and its partners to maintain and improve the park, ensuring it remains a beautiful and vital asset in the borough as we seek to build a greener Hounslow

“We encourage all our residents and visitors to come and explore the wonderful Dukes Meadows.”

Since 2000 the Dukes Meadows Trust has led the regeneration of the meadows to create the riverside park currently enjoyed by thousands of people every year. It has raised over £1 million to create play areas and has planted hedgerows, wildflower meadows and an orchard to increase the bio diversity of the park.
