David Nott speaks of his work in conflict areas
An extremely inspiring evening was held at St Michael’s Church Hall, Elmwood Road organised by the energetic Grove Park Surgery Patients' Group.
We gathered to hear David Nott OBE who is an eminent war surgeon who talked about his experiences in war and natural disaster situations. He is a man of many gifts and has been a consultant surgeon at various London hospitals for 23 years. He specialises in general surgery and performs vascular and trauma surgery at St Mary’s and cancer surgery at the Marsden
The work for which he is most celebrated is humanitarian;
he is the world’s pre-eminent and most experienced conflict surgeon. For
20 years he has practised surgery in most of the areas ravaged by war.
He works in primitive and perilous conditions and his own life is often
in danger.
He continues to go to these countries and also trains other surgeons how
to do this skilled and complicated surgery. Although not all of the patients
live, he has saved the lives of many others.
A man of true humility, David is an inspiration to us
all. To me he is a man of saintly disposition.
He runs a charity foundation and details can be found on his website.
I do encourage anyone interested to look at this and hopefully make a contribution.
Simon Rodway (Patient at Grove Park Surgery).
