A double decker 237 bus was damaged on Chiswick High Road this Sunday afternoon (18 July) after the driver mistakenly drove down Cycleway 9.
The bus was travelling westbound when it entered the segregated cycle lane between Chiswick Lane and Cranbook Road.
The front window on the upper deck was smashed by overhanging trees, branches of which were cut down by the collision.
Eye-witnesses report that no bus passengers or cyclists were hurt during the collision and everybody was able to leave the bus safely. Other than the broken window, the bus appeared undamaged and moved off once the passengers had all alighted. The emergency services did not appear at the scene. One person who saw the incident. speculated that the glare from the sunlight may have confused the driver causing them to make the error.
Despite the road signage a number of drivers of various types of vehicles are still mistakenly attempting to drive up the cycleway both at the Chiswick Lane junction and at the Turnham Green Terrace junction. A black cab was observed in the cycleway earlier in the week turning into the Cycleway after making a right turn out of Turnham Green Terrace.
The front window of the bus was smashed.

A spokesperson for Metroline which operates the 237 route said, “Our Transport Safety Team are currently conducting a thorough investigation into this; we can confirm that there were no injuries as a result of this incident.”
