More Controlled Parking For Grove Park On Way

Hounslow Council will extend CPZ into ten more streets

Following consultations in Riverside ward, Hounslow Council has decided to add more streets to the area of controlled parking in Grove Park.

However, three areas where the majority of residents voted against the introduction of a CPZ, will remain as they are. The Council posted out 2,976 consultation documents to residents in Grove Park and received an average response of 33%.

The proposed large developments near Chiswick, including the Lionel Road football stadium in Brentford have also led to more residents in Grove Park asking for controlled parking to be considered.

Despite deciding some years ago to reject controlled parking for Grove Park as a whole, it now looks as is much of the area is likely to get a parking scheme over the next few years as more streets 'opt in' because of parking 'creep'. However, there still remain many residents in the area who are opposed to a CPZ and it has proved to be a divisive issue.

Riverside Ward was divided into a number of areas for the purpose. Area 1, at Strand on the Green and surrounding streets (eg Thames Road, and side streets) voted 69% in favour of becoming a CPZ with 31% against. Officers will now proceed with a design for a 'stand-alone' CPZ with residents and businesses of that area.

Residents in Area 2 - including Burnaby Gardens, Fauconberg Road, St Mary's Grove and fifteen other streets, are to be re-consulted, in light of the decision made at the Chiswick Area Forum to extend the existing Grove Park CPZ to include Sutton Lane South in the statutory consultation. The response to the consultation in this area was 66% against and 33% for CPZ.

No further action is to be taken in respect o the introduction of a CPZ in three other areas in the ward, who voted in the majority against the introduction against controlled parking.
