Concerns About Hartington Road Plan and Homes for Ukrainians

Chiswick Homefields councillor John Todd reports back

Sign on Edensor Road. What about cyclists and pedestrians!

February 26, 2023

I wanted to start this blog by saying how amused I was to see the TfL message above to bus drivers in Edensor Road – cyclists and motorists are at risk too!

Chiswick Surgery Performance data

A daily newspaper identified a local Chiswick GP Surgery as having poor performance

I asked our NHS liaison officer to make some enquiries..

This is his reply,

Please see statement that was provided below. Sadly data accuracy is an issue at the moment and is being worked on.

A spokesperson for NHS North West London said:

“We do not believe that the published GP Appointment Data figures reported for the surgery specified accurately reflect the practice’s performance in terms of the numbers of face to face appointments. This appears to be due to a reporting error which we are working with the practice to resolve. We will seek to rectify the numbers in due course. NHS Digital has recognised that there data quality issues with GP Appointment Data and this appears to be one example. We encourage patients of the Surgery to continue to contact the practice and access their GP services as normal.”

Please encourage members to contact the Primary Care inbox PRIMARYCARE (NHS HOUNSLOW CCG) houccg.primarycare@nhs.net if they have queries surrounding specific practices.

17 Hartington Road Planning Appeal

Developers are currently appealing against the refusal of the LBH Planning Committee to grant planning permission for the construction of four units on this riverside site.

I voted against this development and met a number of local residents who through diligent enquiry and legal advice provided a sustainable and well argued objections.

They are now repeating this process at the appeal with additional research and related costs.

The developer meanwhile has allowed this property to incur bird infestation and weather related damage.

The objectors should be commended for their commitment, diligence and application.

Homes for Ukraine scheme LBH response

Both Cllr Jack Emsley and I have had numerous communications with family hosts and their Ukranian guests over grants and related matters. We share their frustration.

The Leader conceded at the outset of this scheme that LBH could be doing more yet the issues continued. Local charities materially assisted in making guests welcome.

Whilst conceding that the process involving DBS checks and home visits takes time, the payment of the Government grant was frequently delayed. An alternative Household Support Fund was available via LBH but not always mentioned to hosts or guests.

A question at Council elicited a robust defence of the Council's actions by the Council Leader.

Interestingly on the same day a Chief Officer Decision was signed by the Assistant Chief executive approving additional staffing for this scheme costing £283,000. This Government funding was already with LBH as part of £4.6m grant.

We will continue to monitor this scheme.

Visit to LBH Childrens Homes

The Director of Childrens services has finally agreed that I and other Cllrs. be permitted to visit our two children in care homes. I’ve done so previously.

I believe it’s a most important part of our role as a corporate parent.

We already meet some of the residents at the related committee meeting with the Director and his excellent staff.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
