Wreath Laid at V2 Memorial

61st anniversary of rocket attack on Staveley Road marked

On behalf of the Battlefields Trust and the Brentford and Chiswick Local History Society, a wreath was placed at the Chiswick V2 memorial in Staveley Road, on Thursday 8 September, the 61st anniversary of the first V2 landing in the United Kingdom.

Last year, on the same date, the memorial was unveiled by the Mayor of Hounslow in Staveley Road, Chiswick, to commemorate those who died when the first V2 rocket fell sixty years before. This event was organised jointly by the Brentford and Chiswick Local History Society and the Battlefields Trust.

The V2 landed in the centre of Staveley Road, towards the junction with Burlington Lane. The memorial is placed close to this spot, where today there is a small electricity sub-station. Three people died and 22 were injured, 11 houses were demolished and 27 more were seriously damaged in the immediate area.
