TfL have launched consultation on Gunnersbury station
Transport for London (TfL) has started a consultation on the closure of Gunnersbury tube station's ticket office.
Other Chiswick tube ticket offices on the underground network closed last year, at Turnham Green and Stamford Brook and Chiswick Park.
The consultation process closes on Wednesday January 27.
If the ticket office closes there will be no fixed position in the station from which you can buy a ticket, but staff will be available to sell tickets around the station, according to TfL. Improved ticket machines are to be installed as a replacement.
Gunnersbury and nearby Kew Gardens are included in the next round of ten ticket offices proposed for closure, including, amongst others, Harrow, Kensal Green, north Wembley and central Wembley. TfL intend to have all the work finished by April.
Rail union RMT has campaigned against closure of ticket offices on the underground and is calling on the public to support them. They say that the closure of ticket offices will lead to loss of staff jobs and will affect the overall service to the public.
A demonstration is also planned at Queen's Park from 7.30am on Wednesday January 20.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said; “RMT is launching a campaign to harness public opposition to this latest blast of ticket office closures and we are asking the public to stand with their staff and to register their formal opposition on the London Travel Watch website.”
Rail users are encouraged to voice their comments and concerns, by emailing enquiries@londontravelwatch.org.uk, with ‘London Underground ticket office changes’ in the subject line.
