The footbridge has been closed since last August

Network Rail has confirmed that the long-awaited reinstallation of the footbridge at Chiswick station will take place over the weekend of 7–8 February, marking the first step toward restoring the vital pedestrian link after months of disruption.
The bridge will be back in place by the Sunday of that weekend although it will be subjected to testing and work on the lighting before it can be crossed by members of the public. This is expected to be completed before the end of the month
The footbridge, which provides the only direct route between the two sides of the station without exiting onto surrounding streets, was removed last August for essential structural repairs. Its absence has forced passengers and local residents into a lengthy detour via the road bridge—an inconvenience that has been felt acutely during peak hours and by those with mobility challenges.
The project has faced several delays, with earlier completion dates pushed back as engineers uncovered additional repair requirements. Network Rail’s latest timeline, issued late last year, set mid-February as the target for reinstallation.
A Network Rail spokesperson said, “We will be installing the footbridge at Chiswick station over the weekend of 7–8 February. Once this has been installed, engineers will be working to reinstate and test all lighting before reopening to the public before the end of February. We would like to thank the Chiswick community for their patience while we have been carrying out these essential repairs.”

The installation weekend coincides with wider engineering works in the Barnes area on Sunday 8 February, when lines will be closed all day for maintenance. As a result:
