Travellers Leave Dukes Meadows After Nine Days
Council contractors clear up area and reconsider site security

The group of travellers who set up an encampment on Dukes Meadows departed this Tuesday evening (22 August) nine days after its arrival.
Early the following morning staff from Greenspace 360 (GS) , the council owned company responsible for maintenance of the borough’s park, arrived to clean up the site.
It is understood that there was no significant flytipping and the area was quickly restored to public use.
Kathleen Healy of the Dukes Meadows Trust said, “GS was on site at dawn to clear up before people start to use the park. They also repaired the roundabout that was bunged up with sand. Not a nice job but carried out swiftly and diligently.”
An earth barrier has now been installed to prevent future incursions and the Trust is liaising with the council to install a strong permanent barrier. A tree stump which had blocked access from Riverside Drive had been moved to allow nine caravans and caravanettes to take up residence as well as a number of vehicles.
An eviction notice had been served on the group within 24 hours of arrival.
A Hounslow Council spokesperson said, “Our Parks Team will now work on clearing any residual waste asap. As soon as we are aware a traveller encampment has left a site the team is notified and resources will be allocated to rectify any issues that might require their attention – dependant on what is appropriate for each encampment.”
