Strand on the Green Gets a Diving Board

Local budding Tom Daleys take the plunge into the Thames

High tides, long warm evenings and a willow tree protruding from bankside at Strand on the Green have combined to give Chiswick its very own diving board.

Possibly inspired by the bronze medal winning exploits of Tom Daley, or more probably the beer ad featuring Peter Kay, a group of young men have taken to jumping from a height into the river.

Although this looks great fun, it should be pointed out that swimming in the Thames is dangerous both because of the tides and the amount of sewage that gets pumped into the river.
