BBC's 'Songs Of Praise' To Feature St Alban's Church

Worship continues throughout the restoration work

St Alban’s Acton Green hosted the BBC last week when the Songs of Praise programme recorded interviews with the Bishop of Islington, The Right Revd Ric Thorpe, and with associate vicar of St Alban's, the Revd Mike Tufnell, and members of the local St Alban's community.

The Songs of Praise special features well- known CBeebies presenter David Grant. The episode focused on innovative church practices, and came to investigate what has happened at St Alban’s over the last 15 months. It includes worship in the marquee that has been erected inside the building pending the new heating system, and a large inflatable slide regularly used by the weekly children's lunch club and Christ Church W4 youth groups.

Scaffolding has been going up on St Alban’s this week to allow for a new solar panneled roof to be installed. This is the beginning of a development that will hopefully encompass the whole site and make St Alban’s the beating heart of the community.

The church came back into community use following a public campaign against it being turned into a residential development.

St Alban's is a Church of England church, now part of a family of congregations and church buildings known as Christ Church W4. This includes the popular Christ Church, Turnham Green which now has 800-1000 visits a week for its services, lunch time community cafe, youth groups, Alpha courses, Shelter project and much more besides.
