In recognition of their commitment to providing a broad range of opportunities
Southfield Primary School has achieved the Sport England Activemark for Schools. The award is “in recognition of the school’s commitment to providing a broad and balanced range of curricular and out of school hours PE and Sport opportunities.”
It is the second Physical Education award the school has achieved this academic year. Last term, Southfield received Charter Status for Schools from the Football Association for its football programme.
Southfield offers a dedicated Physical Education curriculum under coordinator Rob Holt. It also offers a wide range of after school activities through the dedication of staff and parent volunteers.
Head teacher Charles Morris commented, “The award reflects what we already knew- Southfield offers outstanding opportunities for pupils to participate in a variety of sports. Our after school extra curricular sporting programme is run almost entirely by staff and parent volunteers.
"Over 450 pupils are regularly taking part in a range of activities that includes football, rugby, tennis, netball, basketball, boxing training and cricket. A Golfing Club is in the planning. This is on top of of non sporting opportunities we offer such as choir, orchestra, French, ICT, cooking and our new science club.”
