Cavendish School pupil's design wins competition

Chiswick school girl, Yasmin Juma, aged 9, has made her mark with a winning design (pictured left) in the ‘Walking To School Calendar’ 2003/2004 competition.

A joint initiative between Hounslow’s Safety Education Team and Kingston, Richmond and Merton Councils, this year saw a record number of local entries, with 10,068 pupils from 33 Hounslow schools taking part.

In this year’s competition, children were asked to design a calendar page for the month of their birthday, with a road safety or walking to school theme.

The aim of the Walk To School campaign is not to walk to school for one week alone, but to make parents think more about changing their habits from using the car for shorter journeys and encouraging them to walk more often.

The colourful calendars have been published and sent out to every class in all primary schools in the four boroughs.
