Chiswick Students Celebrate GCSE Results
Local schools and pupils enjoy record success in exams
Students in Chiswick are celebrating their GCSE/IGCSE results today (Thursday, August 23rd) with several notable individual achievements.
Chiswick School achieved the highest GCSE results to date -including three students receiving 12 A*s and A’s- while Latymer Upper School said their GCSE results were over 90% A*-A.
At Chiswick School, (formerly Chiswick Community School), this years year 11 students achieved a record 61% 5 A* to C at GCSE including English and Maths. A total of 93% achieved 5A* to C in GCSE or equivalents. A further record was broken in Maths where 81% of students achieved a GCSE at grade C and above.

Three students received 12 A*s and As. Milly Asquith achieved 6 A*s and 6 As, Rajah Nuttaki and Zaki Meddings achieved 5A*s and 7As. Athena Rees achieved 7 A* and 4 As,and Luisa Charles achieved 11A*s and As and 1 B. Ruth Clark Wilkins achieved 2A* 8As and 1B, Ashkun Zolagharinia, Charles Habesch, Mark Gvero, and Maddy Gardiner all achieved 9 A*s and As.

The school said the results consolidated the excellent GCSE results of the past four years, which has seen it recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country.

Sophie Sweeney achieved her 5 GCSEs with English and Maths and passed her Creative and Media diploma. She will be undertaking an apprenticeship with Chiswick Business Park- Enjoy Work as a maintenance engineer. The following students whose first language is not English also made exceptional progress and achieved well. Naema Egen achieved a distinction in her Health and Social Care diploma, an A in Photography and she passed her English and Maths GCSEs with grade Cs. Siham Alia Abdalla also achieved a distinction in her Health and Social Care, as well as passing her Maths and English at C grade, A merit in a Sports diploma as well as Bs in Drama and Maths, together with a C pass in English were achieved by Mohammed Thiab. These students show that it is possible to achieve well even when starting with a disadvantage, said the school.
‘These results show Chiswick is continuing to make steps on its journey to be an outstanding school’ said Tony Ryan, the school’s Head teacher. ‘I would like to congratulate all of our students and the staff that taught them, on their hard work and success. We hope to welcome most of year 11 back into our sixth form. These results confirm OFSTED's assessment of us as a good school. We will now be redoubling our efforts to make bigger improvements in the coming year.’

At Latymer Upper School, just over 90% of grades were at A*/A, with 63% of those being A*. All pupils achieved the national benchmark of 5 A*-C grades, and a staggering 113 gained at least 5 A* grades; 62 pupils were awarded 8 or more A* grades, 22 of whom had 10 or more A* grades.

‘Record-breaking’ is an overused phrase in the context of exams, let alone in an Olympic year, but how else can one describe such impressive, and richly deserved, success? I am very excited by the prospect of what they will accomplish in our Sixth Form.”

Other neighbouring schools, which are attended by Chiswick students, also fared well in the exams.
St Paul’s Girls School achieved their best ever results. 89% of all GCSE entries were awarded an A* grade, and 99% were given an A* or A grade.
At Notting Hill and Ealing High School, 85.4% of exam entries were awarded an A* or A grade, and all 84 students achieved at least 5 A* to C grades, including English and Maths.
At Gumley House Convent School in Isleworth, 63.3% of pupils achieved 5 A* to C grades, including English and Maths, and 33% of entries were awarded an A* or A grade.
At the London Oratory School, 51.6% of exam entries were awarded an A* or A grade, and 90.1% of pupils gained at least 5 A* to C grades, including English and Maths.
At Putney High School, 82% of exam entries were awarded an A* or A grade, with all 62 students winning 5 A* to C grades, including English and Maths.
50.8% of the passes were at grade A/A* including nearly 20% A* grades. Over 80% passes were at B and above and over 95% at C or higher.
At St. Benedict's School, Ealing, 50.8% of the passes were at grade A/A* including nearly 20% A* grades. Over 80% passes were at B and above and over 95% at C or higher.
No fewer than 40 pupils achieved 7 or more A grades of which 18 achieved at least 5A* grades. There were some truly outstanding individual performances led by Sebastian Strug with 13 A* grades (a school record!) and Joseph Curran with 11 A* grades.
