Set to change name and uniform for 'seamless transition' to new status
Chiswick Community School is to become an academy from March 1st. After a consultation with students, staff and parents, governors have agreed to the go ahead. The Department for Education has approved the proposal from March 1 st. Their agreement is a result of the third year of better results and higher standards.
The governors also agreed to a change of name for the school. It will from March 1 st be known simply as Chiswick School. Consultation is also underway with students and parents to change the uniform.
The change will mean that the school can spend more of its own resources on areas it has identified for improvement. The school will also have more independence when it comes to decisions about the curriculum.
The word ‘community’ has been dropped from the name in recognition of a change of ethos towards a more outward looking institution. It will still retain its links with Hounslow and the local community, but at the same time develop partnerships with similar schools across London. It also has an intermediate International Schools Award for its links with Chamboli High School in Zambia and further links with schools in Germany and India.
" We will ensure that Chiswick continues to be an outward looking school keen to continue partnership with all stakeholders, including Hounslow LA. We believe that this is the right decision for Chiswick students at this time, and will continue to ensure a seamless transition", said Andrew Dodge, Chair of Governors .
"The independence and extra resources from this decision will benefit the school and its students, helping us on our journey to become an outstanding school" commented Head Teacher, Mr. Ryan.
