Cadent Gas has announced the third extension of the repair work on a leaking gas main on Burlington Lane (A316).

The project, which has caused significant traffic disruption in the area, was originally scheduled to be finished within a week starting on 28 September but now the tentative end date is Friday 24 October.

The utility company said after the previous delay that it had identified additional areas of pipe that require repair. Engineers found that the gas infrastructure beneath the road was more severely compromised that expected, requiring additional repairs to ensure long-term safety and reliability.
It warns that even the latest date given for completion is subject to the pipe not requiring any further repair.

The update came as the earlier date given for completion (16 October) was missed.

The company said, “We understand that extensions to work can be frustrating and road closures can be disruptive, so we appreciate your patience whilst we make sure that you can continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.

The northbound lane closure remains in place between Paxton Road and the Hogarth Roundabout and access to Hogarth Roundabout is suspended for all vehicles during the repairs. The Hogarth Flyover remains open, but only to vehicles under three tonnes and two metres wide. Buses and HGVs must divert via Kew Road (A307) and Great West Road (A4).

Cllr Jack Emsley, who represents Chiswick Homefield ward, said,“Following discussions between councillors and the council’s transport team, access restrictions on Staveley Road have been temporarily lifted for the duration of these emergency works. We have also asked for proper provisions to be made to cover signs. We hope this goes some way to alleviating the problems caused by these works.”
