Significant traffic delays are anticipated in the Chiswick area as a result of roadworks that are due to take place on the A316 Great Chertsey Road lasting through to next year.
Transport of London (TfL) is carrying out maintenance and refurbishment work on the bridge over the railway line between the junctions with Hartington Road and Staveley Road from 6 December 2021 to 17 January 2022.
Traffic Lane closures will be in place on the A316 Great Chertsey Road on the approaches to Grove Park Bridge, from Chiswick Bridge to the south and Hogarth roundabout to the north 24 hours a day for the duration of the works. For the avoidance of confusion, this is the bridge north of Chiswick Bridge on the A316 rather than the one off Grove Park Road.
The bridge is currently marked as having a ‘weak verge’. TfL says the project will improve the long-term condition of the bridge, road surface and pavements.
Work will be taking place on weekdays from 8:00am until 5pm and Saturdays from 8:00 to 1:00pm. There will be two weekends when work will take place across the whole weekend - 17 to 20 December 2021 and 14 to 17 January 2022.
TfL says the noisiest works will be carried out before 11pm every night.
The project will be paused between 20 December 2021 and 3 January 2022.
Poor weather conditions may mean the scheduled completion date needs to be extended.
The pavement along the A316 Great Chertsey Road will be closed in the northbound direction from 6 to 20 December 2021, and in the southbound direction from 4 to 17 January 2022.
Northbound bus stop 'Staveley Road' (Stop R) will be suspended from 6 December to 20 December 2021. The nearest alternative stop is Alexandra Avenue' (Stop S).
Cllr Sam Hearn, Traffic and Transport Spokesperson for the Conservative Councillors Group, said, "We have asked Hounslow Council and TfL to discuss the immediate relaxation of the access restrictions on Hartington Road for the duration of the road works on the A316. We believe that this simple and easily implemented action would relieve the potential overloading of the local road network. Our roads are already under stress from the major works now being undertaken on Chiswick High Road. No response has as yet been received from Hounslow Council but TfL have agreed to discuss this proposal with Hounslow Highways."
