Council Says Chiswick High Road Traffic Set To Improve
Cycleway works and Acton Lane main repair to finish this month

Hounslow Council are promising an improvement in traffic conditions in Chiswick later this month with the completion of two roadwork projects that have been causing extra disruption.
The work by Thames Water is now expected to be over by 13 November according to a sign posted at the project site. The council has said the work will be done by ‘mid-November’.
At the same time it has confirmed that the temporary signals in place on Chiswick High Road placed there as part of the temporary Cycleway 9 project will be removed in the coming week.
Chiswick has been hit by consistently high levels of traffic this November despite the beginning of the second lockdown. Last week the Queen is believed to have become stuck in traffic and there have been a number of incidents in which emergency service vehicles have been delayed by the traffic jams.
The council has not said at this point whether it intends to resume enforcement of the access restrictions on Turnham Green Terrace which some locals believe have also contributed to traffic problems in the area.
Cllr Hanif Khan, Cabinet Member for Transport and One Hounslow, said, “I share the frustrations of road users at the congestion caused by Thames Water’s ongoing works on Acton Lane. It has been difficult for residents living in or travelling through the area.
“We’ve been listening to everyone affected, and monitoring the situation closely, as our changes to Thames Water’s traffic management plans two weeks ago made clear.
“We have spoken to Thames Water again this week and are pleased to report they have told us that works are on course for completion by the mid-November.
“Cycleway 9 is also expected to be completed by TfL later this month, so we will see improvements for traffic flows on Chiswick High Road as temporary road signals begin being removed next week.
“We will provide updates as any new information comes in and I want to take this opportunity to thank residents for their patience.”
