Call For Safer Crossing Near Local GP Surgery
Elderly residents want a zebra crossing on Fisher's Lane
Elderly residents in retirement flats close to Fisher's Lane have called on Hounslow Council to take steps to make it easier for vulnerable people to cross the road at a busy junction.
They have sent a petition to the Council asking for an informal crossing point at the junction with Dolman Road to be upgraded to a zebra crossing.
There are two GP surgeries in Fisher's Lane, used by dozens of retired residents nearby, in Homecross House, a block of 110 retirement flats, and Jessops House, a Council development of 41 retirement flats, Kirton Close, off Fisher’s Lane.
The petition, requesting a pedestrian crossing be installed in the road, has been signed by 68 people, and points out that there is a very high proportion of residents living close to Fisher’s Lane who have mobility problems and use a stick or a walking frame - therefore they move more slowly than the average pedestrian and take longer to cross a road.
"Much of the traffic on Fisher’s Lane does not seem to abide by the speed limit and,
because of the bend in the road, the traffic coming into Fisher’s Lane from Dolman
Road is not visible until it is virtually upon you. The Chiswick Health Centre, a frequent destination, is on the opposite side of Fisher’s Lane to Homecross House.
"THERE IS NO PEDESTRIAN CROSSING ON THE WHOLE OF FISHER’S LANE.
It is impossible to cross the road safely anywhere."When the road was resurfaced last year the island at the junction of Fisher’s Lane and Dolman Road was given sloping access on all three sides and we all thought that crossings would follow, but they did not.
"It would be so simple to install pedestrian crossings to the island from both sides of
Fisher’s Lane and the problem would be solved. We would be very grateful if you could bring this matter up with the Highways Department on our behalf as a matter of urgency.”
The Council has agreed to collect the relevant information needed to assess the situation and present a full report to a future meeting of the Chiswick Area Forum.
