Pruning Works on Chiswick High Road

Disruption expected over the month of January

Hounslow Council are advising people to take care on Chiswick High Road during January due to tree pruning works that will be taking place.

The reason for carrying out works during this time of the year is because the street trees on Chiswick High Road are predominantly London Planes. As per the current tree strategy, forest trees such as 'Limes' and 'Planes' are pruned on a 3 year cycle. They have to prioritise pruning of plane trees during winter and before they come into leaf. The short, stiff hairs shed by the young leaves and dispersing seeds are an irritant if breathed in, and can exacerbate breathing difficulties.

The Council say that they have made every effort to ensure that traffic disruption is kept to a minimum whilst the tree pruning works are carried out. A traffic management programme has been drawn up and the Council has liaised with the Traffic Section, Transport for London and other relevant agencies.

The works will run from January to end of April 2012. They will be carrying out some tree pruning works during the weekends to reduce disruption to traffic; as some of these trees are located in areas which are particularly prone to traffic problems.

Transport for London have stipulated that should excessive delays occur as a result of the traffic management employed and as a consequence of unforeseen traffic demand, the normal operation of the road will be reinstated until such time as the traffic demand is deemed to be at an acceptable level to ensure no delays result.
