Acton Lane near Chiswick Sainsbury's to be closed for ten days
A collapsed sewer has resulted in Acton Lane being closed between Essex Place (by Sainsbury's) and Chiswick High Road.
The collapse had caused a back up of sewage in premises around the area so immediate work was necessary. The pipe is 4 metres underground directly underneath the road and it is currently estimated that the repair work will take ten days.
Acton Lane was already closed southbound at this point for work to replace a gas main but will now be closed in both directions. It is not known whether the gas main repair work caused the collapse of the sewer.
Chiswick Road will be closed for all but local residential access traffic.
As Bollo Lane is also closed at the junction with Acton Lane there has been less traffic flow in this area.
It is hoped that during the holiday period the impact of the closure will not be as bad as it might have been but it is anticipated that there may be serious localised congestion on alternative routes.
