Chiswick RNLI Rescue Woman From Thames

Seen entering the water at Chiswick Bridge

A woman aged in her twenties was rescued from the Thames by Chiswick RNLI last night (Jan 13) and taken to hospital.

The incident happened shortly before 7 pm. It is understood that people jogging along the towpath raised the alarm after spotting the woman falling into the water at Chiswick Bridge.

Heavy currents in the water and high water levels due to recent rainfall pulled the woman quite a distance along the river towards Barnes.

Walkers and joggers along the riverbank were able to help direct the rescue services.

The woman was shouting for help and was rescued from the river by Chiswick RNLI near the White Hart Inn near Barnes.

She was taken to Chiswick Pier and assisted by staff and the London Ambulance. Police were also on the scene.

She was taken to hospital but it is believed she was not seriously injured.

Chiswick RNLI Lifeboat is the second busiest in the UK and Ireland; since starting service in 2002, it has attended over 2250 incidents and rescued over 1075 people.

The station has posted that its figures for 2013 include 223 services and 74 persons rescued.
