Two dinghies capsize in separate incidents
Chiswick Lifeboat rescued four sailors in two separate incidents yesterday (Sunday, December 11th).
The Lifeboat and crew were at Richmond when they received an alert of an incident near Hammersmith Bridge around 1300 hours.
While en route to that incident, the crew spotted two women sailors clinging to the upturned hull of an overturned dinghy at Chiswick Eyot at 13.42.
The crew took the women on board and proceeded to Hammersmith Bridge to deal with the first incident.
When they arrived they found the two sailors had been placed onto a safety boat, and the lifeboat then went to recover the craft.
The lifeboat crew helped to disentangle the two craft and after allowing it to drift on the tide under Hammersmith Bridge righted the dinghy so it could be returned with all the soggy sailors back to London Corinthian Sailing Club.
Helmsman Glen Monroe commented "it was fortunate that we came across the capsized dinghy by Chiswick Eyot first, as the two women were in the water and we were able to recover them quickly; whereas at the incident we were first called to, the dinghy crew had already been made safe."
This year Chiswick lifeboat has attended 215 incidents and rescued 107 people.
All four were members of Corinthians Sailing Club, and none required hospital treatment.
