90th Anniversary Presentation to Chiswick Sea Cadets
Royal British Legion give thanks for 25 years of support
Distinguished guests including the Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Mann; the Master of the Worshipful Company of World Traders; Mr A Johnson of Fuller, Smith and Turner; Cllr Corinna Smart; Mr and Mrs GW White, and the duty crew of the Life Boat, witnessed our celebration of 90 years of the Royal British Legion (RBL) at Chiswick Pier on 6th July.
Her Majesty's Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Hounslow, Paul Kennerley, took the salute, when the RBL presented a flag to the Chiswick Sea Cadets who have supported the branch for 25 years with their presence at the Remembrance Day ceremony at Chiswick War Memorial.
A wind band, courtesy the Hounslow Borough Music Service, conducted by Mr Alan Goodall, played as the Sea Cadets marched on. A group of RBL members escorted the Branch Standard. After the Deputy Lord Lieutenant inspected all those on parade, having a chat with each, the flag was presented by Jim Lowther Poppy Appeal Organiser.
Cadet Rees-Lewis received her certificate on becoming Deputy Lord Lieutenant's Cadet of the Year and a medal was presented to retired CPO Mike Ellis (for his service in 1963 in Malayasia, it has only just been issued.)
It was a beautiful evening, and the cadets and the young people in the band were at their best. Paul Lynch as chairman of the Chiswick RBL branch, thanked the cadets for their support and comradeship for 25 years, and asked for three cheers for the band. The cadets gave three rousing cheers and marched of to the rousing strains of “Hearts of Oak.“
The parents and supporters of the the cadets had laid on a splendid tea which was very much enjoyed by all present.
