Recycling Lorry Offloads its Contents onto The Avenue
E-scooter battery blamed after flames seen coming from waste

The contents of an Ealing Council bin lorry making recycling collections in the Bedford Park this Monday morning (22 July) have been dumped on The Avenue.
According to refuse collectors working for the council contractor, Greener Ealing, smoke and flames started to come from the back of the lorry at some time after 9am. As a precaution the entire load was deposited on the street and the Fire Brigade was called.
Based on previous experiences the staff believe that the cause of the fire was an e-bike or e-scooter battery that was put in with recycling waste. Ealing Council has yet to confirm what the cause of the incident.

The Fire Brigade sent one fire engine to the scene and firefighters doused down the pile of wasterand remained to monitor the pile of refuse as it was being gathered.
The police closed The Avenue between Marlborough Crescent and Blandford Road to allow Greener Ealing vans to collect the waste.
The clean up job was completed before noon with very little evidence left of what had occurred.

E3 buses were diverted via Acton Lane, Beaconsfield Road and South Parade, missing stops between Wilkinson Way (A and H) and Bedford Road (J and K) but service reverted to normal before midday.
Recycling collections were reportedly only slightly delayed by the incident.

An Ealing Council spokesperson said, “A fire started within some of the waste on one of our recycling vehicles on The Avenue, Chiswick at about 9am this morning. The crew immediately called the Fire Brigade who put out the fire, emptying the contents of the vehicle onto the road. Our street cleansing team has cleared up the waste and no collections were affected. The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
