Stirling Road Tip Could Be Closing Before End of Year

There has still been no official confirmation of when Ealing Council plan to close the Stirling Road Recycling Centre but staff at the tip have been telling customers it is going to shut in November.
The council controversially announced its intention to close the tip this February despite growth in recycling rates having stalled in the borough.
Workers at the centre have been telling residents that their last day will be 28 November. Ealing Council did not respond when we asked them to confirm this information.
Staff said they believed storage company Magenta, which has an operation next door will be expanding into the site rather than it being developed for residential use as has been widely speculated. Magenta did not reply to our request for comment and we were unable to find details of any purchase of the site at the Land Registry.
When announcing the closure, the council blamed government funding cuts and said that it would be consolidating waste and recycling operations to one main site at the larger Greenford Reuse and Recycling Centre. Residents in the area can also use the recycling centre at Twyford Abbey Road.
Two petitions were launched against the closure by the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives with the former gained nearly 2,500. However, the decision was incorporated into the annual budget of the borough and has been ratified by the council so it is believed any last minute reprieve is unlikely.
The Townmead Road Recycling Centre in Mortlake, which many residents of Chiswick and Acton are likely to use as an alternative, is reopening at a reduced capacity from Monday 19 July. Usual opening hours will be in place but initially slots will only be available to residents who had bookings cancelled after the centre caught fire. The booking site will be open to the public from the morning of Wednesday 21 July but. as the centre will be operating at less than 50% capacity while works continue to make the area where the fire took place safe, there will be fewer slots and cardboard and paper will not be accepted. Monday and Tuesday are allocated for garden waste only. This means no other waste can be dropped off on a Monday or Tuesday, and garden waste cannot be dropped off on any other day.
