Chiswick's letter boxes were a little quieter than usual this Friday as postal workers are staged a 24 hour walkout for the second time in three weeks.

The strike, which began at 7.00pm on Thursday 12th July, was called by Communication Workers Union (CWU) after a breakdown in talks between management and workers over pay and working practices.

Royal Mail has offered its workers a 2.5% pay increase, plus a performance linked bonus of up to £800, but the CWU wants pay rises in line with inflation. They also claim that a change in working practices would mean the loss of around 40,000 jobs.

Chiswick Post Office was open for business but no collections were made.
