Gerald McGregor to be new local councillor
The by-election held in Chiswick Homefields ward this Thursday resulted in a win for the Conservative candidate Gerald McGregor.
Turnout was only 18.2% below the 32.5% seen at the Borough elections in 2002 for the same ward. This confirmed the fears of a low turnout. The Green candidate Martin Bleach had criticised the Council for failing to make a greater effort to publicise the election.
The winning candidate polled 58% of the vote which was a higher percentage than last time athough, as the Liberal Democrats did not field a candidate, an exact comparison is difficult
Gerald McGregor, a personnel consultant, lives in the heart of Chiswick Homefields Ward in Abinger Road with his wife and family. As a local resident for twenty-five years, Gerald says he knows all about the challenges and problems that face ordinary people in Chiswick.
He added, "My priorities will be to work with the community to force to PCT to reconsider their decision to sell Chiswick Lodge, to work to reduce crime and get CCTV for Chiswick, to improve our streets and basically get better value from Hounslow Council. I want to stop the Council wasting our money. Council Tax has risen by 83% since 1997 but services are no better. I will stand up for the interests of Chiswick?"
The by-election was called as a result of the resignation of Sally Gilson due to work commitments.
