Former Top Gear Team's Chiswick Office To Get Major Makeover

Permission granted to refurbish studios at Power Road

Power Road Studios - where Jeremy Clarkson's 'Top Gear' team has its office- is to be part of a major refurbishment scheme. Barr Gazetas has received planning consent for the upgrading and extension of Power Road Studios in Chiswick.

The site was the scene of one of the largest property deals in Chiswick, when Helical Bar paid £34.2 million from Sapcote Development for the two acres which contain 5 buildings including the offices that Jeremy Clarkson and the former Top Gear team moved into.

Current tenants include the makers of Top Gear spin-off ‘The Grand Tour’ and Heston Blumenthal’s kitchen equipment company. The proposals, drawn up for property developer Helical Plc, focus on Power Road Studios’ Studio 1 and Studio 5, and will deliver much improved business accommodation.

Work is expected to start in January 2018 on the new Studio 5 building.

The existing Studio 5 will be replaced with a new five-storey, 3,000 sq m office building with a garden roof and views across West London.

The scheme will extensively refurbish Studio 1 to complement the Art-Deco style of the 1930s anchor building which was constructed to be the home of the Singer Sewing Machine Company and later became the BBC’s research department. The plans for Studio 1 include the addition of a contemporary third floor roof extension creating 1,240m2 of new office space.

The project is due to complete in Spring 2020 and will entail a complex three-year phased redevelopment plan.
