Flats For Former Chiswick Job Centre

Development underway for sixteen flats on High Road

The former Job Centre on Chiswick High Road is to turned into sixteen residential flats with a commercial premises on the ground floor and underground parking.

The site, which has been vacant for a lengthy period of time, has been acquired by Ideal Land on behalf of clients and Linden Homes have already begun work on the property.

It is understood that a tenant for the commercial unit on the ground floor has not yet been acquired.
The decision to close the Job Centres in Chiswick and Hounslow was taken in September 2003.

The existing benefits office, which was in close proximity to the Job Centre, was being refurbished and it was agreed it would service the same catchment area without creating significant inconvenience to local residents.

However, residents in Chiswick or Brentford then had to travel to Hounslow, Acton or Hammersmith.

The Chiswick Area Committee at the time expressed concerns on behalf of the 600 people affected by this closure, including disabled people. One point made to justify closure at the time was that all Job Centre vacancies were held on a national database and could be accessed from the internet.
