Sustainable Committee Turns Down Plans For Chiswick Octopus

Planning permission refused for the Ken Shuttleworth designed building

An application to build a 'gateway landmark' on an area of land close to Chiswick Roundabout were turned down by the Sustainable Development Committee yesterday, Wednesday 17th March.

The plans were referred to the committee from the Chiswick Area Planning Committee after members were unable to reach a decision.

Objections were raised by Brentford Community Council and the Highways Agency however, Transport for London said they had no objections to the proposed building in principle although they did make some recommendations with regard to advertising.

Designed by acclaimed architect Ken Shuttleworth and known locally as the Octopus, the development was the brainchild of property developer Kim Gottleib.

Commenting on the refusal, Kim told ChiswickW4.com, “I don’t blame the Councillors for reaching the decision they did last night, it’s just that they were completely misled and misdirected by certain planning officers who failed their basic duty to consider our planning application in a professional, objective and impartial manner."

He added, "This is a tragic but temporary loss for London.”
